Start with who you help and what you teach
Your opening should name your subject, learners and approach. A long CV does not automatically answer those questions. Write so that a parent without specialist knowledge can understand your lessons.
Fictional profile example: I help lower-secondary learners with maths. We work through problems step by step and practise until you can explain the method yourself.
Make your experience meaningful
Mention relevant education, professional experience or previous teaching. Explain how it helps your lessons. If you are starting out, describe your subject knowledge and preparation rather than inventing teaching experience.
Only list qualifications you actually hold. Words such as certified or specialist need specific, accurate information behind them.
Describe a typical lesson
For example: We start with an exercise from your schoolwork. We identify the difficult step, practise a similar problem together and finish with one you try independently.
For language lessons, explain how conversation, vocabulary and feedback fit together. Music lessons might focus on practice, technique and suitable pieces. Adapt the description to what you really do.
Separate your profile from your listing
Your profile introduces you and your teaching style. A listing describes a related topic, level, format, availability and prices. Unrelated subjects need their own suitable description.
Add a clear photo. An optional introduction video can show how you explain things. Do not publish private contact details or information about previous learners without their permission.
Read it as someone who has never met you
Leave out claims such as guaranteed top grades. Specific, honest information helps people decide more than superlatives. Recommendations can complement your introduction, but cannot replace a clear description.
- Are subject and level immediately clear?
- Is every experience claim accurate?
- Can someone picture a typical lesson?
- Do the photo, description and listing fit together?
- Have I removed unsupported promises?
