How to start tutoring online in Switzerland

Prepare clear online lessons with suitable materials, a simple structure and a plan for connection problems.

Test how you will join the lesson

Agree in advance on how you will connect. Check sound, camera and connection before the appointment. A quiet space and clear audio matter more than an elaborate background.

LernLink helps you arrange lessons and appointments. Use the chat to agree on your video tool and who will send the joining link. Do not assume the learner has used it before.

Prepare simple, readable materials

Open only the materials you need. Make text and worked examples large enough to read on a smaller screen. Check that both people can access any shared materials.

Show calculations one step at a time. For a language lesson, a short text and a few conversation questions may be enough. Use your own materials or content you have permission to use for teaching.

Keep the learner involved

It is easy to become a passive listener online. Regularly ask for an attempt or an explanation in the learner's own words. Ask specific questions, such as: Which step comes next, and why?

  • State a clear goal at the beginning
  • Alternate short explanations with practice
  • Check understanding with a new task
  • Finish with a brief summary

Protect privacy

Close personal messages and private windows before sharing your screen. Where possible, share only the window you need. Do not publish lesson images or recordings without appropriate permission.

For younger learners, responsible adults should understand the teaching format and contact arrangements. Keep communication appropriate and focused on the lessons.

Agree on a backup plan

If the connection drops, first try rejoining. Agree how to contact each other during a longer interruption. If you cannot teach meaningfully, discuss a new time or what to do next.

Keep important arrangements in your LernLink conversation. The cancellation and refund policies explain what applies when a lesson is cancelled or not delivered. A technical interruption should not simply be confirmed as completed teaching.
